Change.....

...you have forced yourself on me a little too much this year.  But when you start messing with my Christmas...you are going to ruffle my feathers!!!

If you know me very well, you know I have A LOT of Christmas traditions!
I LOVE Christmas!!!

Some of my traditions have been carried over from my childhood, some were started when my kids were small and some were started as they got older.  All have great meaning and I look forward to ALL of them!

Our Christmas this year was already going to have some changes.....

*we have a new daughter-in-love!  This is her 1st Christmas with us!!
*The 2 older kids can't make it home till Dec 30th...so we will be celebrating Christmas on New Years Day.  I am going to call it New Christmas!
*Money is VERY tight right now, so we are only going to be filling stockings (the best part in my kids opinions!)

Some traditions we decided to "put away" this year. However, one of those we have now decide to keep....

*We first thought we would stop the tradition of giving the kids $100 at Thanksgiving to give away (go here to read about it), but Jason decided to do it anyway and reminded us what a great tradition it really is and how much we would miss it!  So it's on!! But this year, everyone is providing their own $100.

*Since we are having "New Christmas", our Christmas and New year's traditions are going to blend together. The kids decided these were a must...

*matching PJs
*appetizers on New Christmas Eve
*Exchanging sibling letters on New Christmas Eve
*Cinnamon roll Christmas tree for breakfast
*Black eyed peas and fried turkey for dinner

Well, once again, CHANGE has slid in it's less-than-welcome foot.....

Alyssa is sick again...ugh.
For those of you that don't know, she was just in the hospital a few weeks ago with strep and staph pneumonia.  The doctors have decided that she needs to have her tonsils out and have scheduled the surgery for the 18th.....

....which means she can't fly home for Christmas.

So, once again we will be rearranging our plans.

This is what I KNOW will happen....

*I WILL be getting to Houston to take care of my girl
*We will also be bringing the Bowyer New Christmas to her
(just not sure how that is going to work yet)

And one final thing I know...

....we will love it no matter what happens because we will be together!
AND because we will choose to keep our focus on the real reason for Christmas....

....the birth of our Savior.

Here's an "Atta Girl" for your great attitude. So sorry about Alyssa. But as always you have your priorities straight. Our Savior's birth and being with family no matter what day it is. Blessings to you dear friend.

Your poor daughter! :(
Yep - changes always have to be made...
Stockings really are the best part of Christmas!!!
Aren't you proud of your kids for wanting to continue that tradition of helping others??? :)

Sorry about Alyssa. Glad you can be with her. Hope you can still make it here.
Last year we had a new Christmas on New Year after Sam was out of the hospital tho' weak.
As the family grows and the years pass, natural changes gradually sneak in.
I love your traditions and that you are holding on as long as you can.

Change is hard, and seeing your kids sick is even harder. I have a feeling that in spite of all that, this is going to be an amazing Christmas for all of you.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I'm sure your trip will be great anyhow.
Love the idea of the $100 to give away.

What a neat thing that you all decided what to keep and what's ok to change. I love that your grown kids got involved and the special things they decided must stay...that the big fancy presents are NOT part of what makes Christmas so special for them. Very heart warming!!

Continued prayers as God leads you through this testing. He WILL prove Himself faithful again!

We've celebrated Christmas with the grown kids on New Year's Eve my name for it was:
Happy New Christmas Merry Year's Eve Day

I think the thing I hate the most about grown and married kids is how the holidays are so terribly different.

We would have so many things to chat about.

I am constantly being taught that I cannot make plans or have expectations anymore. I guess there is a benefit in it? I don't know. It is frustrating, but you have the right attitude. It's about family and our Savior no matter where we are physically or what date we have to plan it on. Our kids will only be able to celebrate early with us so we will have ours much earlier and I'm ok with that as long as we are together. Prayers for Alyssa.
