What do you do when you are iced in?

First you go outside to see if it is really as bad as they say because in AR they tend to close school for the slightest hint of weather...

You see that it really is as bad and the ice is coming down pretty hard.
And you wonder what your back yard looks like...

This is the kind of "snow" we get in AR.
Little ice pellets.....which make driving very dangerous!

You then decide to make your family a wonderful breakfast....at least the ones that are up.
Omelets.......yum!!!

Since you can't go anywhere, your current book is calling your name......
...and you now have the time to finish it.

....for the rest of the morning because it is so good you can't put it down!

Then if you are a dog....
...you get comfortable and watch all that is going on outside.

After lunch, you decide to have a family game...
......of course you choose one that will take a while, Settlers of Catan.

....and of course between turns you see what amazing things you can build with your pieces..

...which becomes a contest between family members...
..to see who is the most creative or can build the tallest.

When the game is finally over, and someone makes a surprise win that totally takes everyone by surprise, you decide to try and make Pioneer Woman's chocolate cupcakes she has posted today.

They don't turn out like they should and stick to the pans, so you decide to just eat them now instead of taking the time to make the icing.

They are pretty awesome anyway!

What's next? Of course a rousing game of Wii golf..

....or at least for the boys because Wii golf is just a bit too slow for me! just sayin'

.....so what do you do on a ice/snow day?

We slept in, made a big breakfast, went to a movie, made pizza for dinner, played video games, and now we're putting the kids to bed early so we can watch a movie.

I went out and took pictures of the snow, ate, watched The Weather Channel, ate, spent time on Face Book, ate, watched some more TV, ate, read some blogs...I'm going to have to go on a fast as soon as all the snow and ice melts off! :) Stay warm!

I do a lot of the same things! Catan, Wii, books, and cookies! Have you played Cities and Knights of Catan or Seafarers of Catan?

And I do agree, Wii Golf is slooow!

No ice here today, just rainy and hovering around 40 degrees. And I have been curled up in my chair most of the day with alternating stopped up/draining sinuses!

Unfortunately, I have to go to work. Police Departments tend to frown on you taking a snow day! lol

Sounds like perfectly wonderful day!

It sounds like a perfect day! I usually still have to go to work on these days, but last year we had a blizzard and it happened to be my day off. Bob, Heather and I did a big puzzle and read - it was great!

We were lazy but Audrey and Tommy went out into the snow to play for a little while. I baked a birthday cake for Audrey's bday. Oh, and yes I HAVE peeked at presents alot. I am getting better though. I didn't look once this Christmas. That's really good for me. :)

Darn that El Nino that has kept that sort of fun stuff out of our part of the country (our mountain snow pack is very low this year). But your "no school" day sounds pretty ideal!

That sounds SO fun! I love it when we get snowed in (or iced in). I guess that is because I don't have to do any of the shoveling. :) I should make my family some yummy looking food like you do.

i loved seeing your day in pictures, you got some great ones!!! looks like fun too. it should have been pretty bad where your daughter is too, that is what we heard anyway. it missed us and hit all around us, we were a little disappointed since we were hoping for a day like yours. :)

On my snow day, I woke up at 6:05 to check if the schools were closed. Yes! They were! So I leave a huge ribbon on Nathan's door and a big note written with lipstick on the bathroom mirror for Haley, then I head back to bed until a hour I will not share!
We watch amazing birds in our back yard munching on birdseed, the Dad and son go sledding down our neighborhood hills, we play Apples to Apples, have homemade pizza, watch movies, and drink lots of hot chocolate! I LOVE snow days and the fact I work in the school district!

You, my friend, know how to make the best of being iced in. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. (And yes I'm about to start up again soon, I hope and do believe.)

Stay safe and hoping for little tree damage.

Hugs from Africa!

What I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE about a snow day is it MAKES US have to STOP and simply enjoy each other and things like DELICIOUS omelets, cupcakes and GAMES as a family. ALL commitments CANCELED and there is no need for explanation!
What a GREAT day!

What a fun family day! Since we live in AZ we don't get many ice/snow days, but when we lived in MI we did! We would snuggle under the covers of my bed and have a movie marathon...the house was even too cold to move around in!!

FunNy!! Since everyday is a snow-day here, we shall implement some of your ideas! LOVE the way you've chronicled the whole thing with photographs. your Project 365 is done! I made those pioneer women cupcakes! AWESOME!! however....If you plop down a bit of peanut butter creamed with powdered sugar along with the chocolate kiss? --- oH My!!!! and we used BluesClues cupcake liners sprayed with GreatValue canola oil spread -- helps with the sticking!

... We don't have a wii -- really can't relate, but so many people talk about this -- can I get one in a garage sale??? :)

YOU do the kinds of things I'd LIKE to do, but as it happens...I do a lot of muddy, icy laundry. And wipe a lot of noses. And smear stuff on a lot of cheeks. And wish there was a fire in my fireplace.

Two things. 1) I've NEVER heard of that game before! Weird. and 2) That look on your son's face in the Wii shot is priceless.
