Growing old....

one, ONE night of no sleep....

...and it has taken me ALL week to recover.
(hence no posts this week)

In the wee hours of Monday morning, we got a call that our daughter was in the ER with abdominal pain...she is 8 hours away.

I was up most of the night (who could sleep after that) waiting to get the final call that she was going home with the diagnosis of another ruptured ovarian cyst.

She is doing fine now, but it has taken me all week to feel like I have recovered.

Seriously, I used to be able to stay up all night and be just fine after a short nap.

What happened?!!!

Age

Here are a few more things that AGE has brought me...

grey hair that doesn't want to hold color any more
hormones that take over my body..
..physically and mentally
a lazy susan installed in my brain
age spots
hearing that is not so sharp
trifocals
muscles that don't like exercise....at.all.
a rogue hair on my chin

But age has also brought...

a deep love of my Savior
a knowledge, learned and lived, of His amazing love
a marriage that is more than I ever dreamed 25 years ago
adult/teenage children that are walking with God
deep friendships
contentment in who I am
wisdom
one step closer to Jesus

...and I wouldn't change it for anything.

...well, all except the rogue hair...that's just not right.

I'm only 32, and I have a rogue chin hair. What's up with that?!

Seriously, you think you're old, but you look 30! I know you're feeling it though. Do you still have the number I gave you?

The wonderful things that age has brought make me look forward to it (a little)!

Don't worry about the hair. I'm 25 and already have TWO on my chin! My mom had one and we used to sing "not by the hair of my chinny chin chin to her". Not quite as funny when I grew one. :)

I hope Alyssa feels better. We are thinking about her.

The physical symptoms of growing old are simply unfair, but I think you look fab! Love how you end things with a positive twist... I should have been more like that yesterday. Hormones. Gotta love 'em. ;)

I was just thinking this morning that I hadn't seen you around much. I hope your daughter is better.

you mean it's gonna get worse than it is already for me? i already have the stuff you listed and I'm not yet 40. but i do love the good things that come with age, like you said. i hope your daughter is doing ok now. i had a few nights of 3 hours of sleep this weekend with the retreat, and i am feeling it too.

Growing old is definitely not all it's cracked up to be. I mean I've always looked forward to retiring, but now I'm the age that I could and I sure don't like all the other stuff that came with it. lol

Thank you for that great post that lifts us beyond 'rogue' and gray hairs to what really matters!
How serious are A's cyst issues? So sorry y'all had to go through that?

Hope dd is much better today and that Mommy sleeps tonight :)

I totally agree about the benefits of growing older. :) The loss of hormones (and the ensuing brain fog) is a drag for sure, but I wouldn't go back.

I guess that's why they say that youth is wasted on the young. :)

I cracked up over the rogue hair comment! :)

This is the first I'm hearing about the hairs. I'm with H-Mama...its simply unfair. And so is what happens when you have kids. You got through ALL that, bring this wonderful creature into the family, and you don't get your body back? How is that fair?

I hope your daughter is ok. Is that surgery? Praying for her!

I'd like to pretend that I have NO IDEA what you're talking about. But, yeah, I do. I like the last part of this post. Alot. Have a wonderful weekend!

Trust that your daughter is fully recovered. It's so hard to be so far away and feel helpless; I know, I've been there!

Amen to your list on what age has brought.

(Well, except I have no rogue chin hair. But it's early days yet.)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I'm so glad Alyssa is OK. Emily has pain when she has endometriosis troubles, and severe cramping and migraines.

As far as the sleep/no-sleep thing, I'm right there with ya, Sister.

The hormone stuff will get better the longer you're on them, and as they adjust them. It's been 4 years for me...since I'm older than you and all :)

Great post! I too hear ya on the hormones lol. Is your dtr doing better now? What a week for you and that doesn't even touch what your days must be like as a Pastor's wife.
You are in my prayers Sara!

Love this post. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about this whole aging thing. So it was nice to hear your perspective--your wisdom.
