Friends, I need your prayers this morning

My 17 year old son is supposed to leave this morning at 10:00 for a trip to Italy with his school.  He has been preparing for this for 5 months.  His brother came down with strep on Tuesday.  Jason woke me up at 3:00 am with 103.8 fever.  I started him on the antibiotic I got for him to take on the trip just in case.  I have been up since then praying for wisdom as to what to do.

Long and short of it...I talked to his doctor this morning.  We are going to send him.  It is 99% that it is strep.  He will have to fly with a face mask (humbling for a 17 yr old boy).  Worst case, he is sick in bed in Italy.  Best case, he rests on the 20 hour flying time and is better when he gets there.  I just checked him and he woke up with no fever so the advil is working.

The mom is me is very conflicted right now.  I don't want him to miss this chance of a life time trip that he has worked for, but sending your child out of the country sick is hard on my heart.

please pray for healing and peace for me!  thank you!

Sara~ Just remember the Lord lead you to make the right decision. I'm sure the meds will kick in soon. What a great opportunity for him. Imagine the pictures.

I will keep your son and your family in my prayers. I totally understand your conflict. A year and a half ago, we put our daughter on a plane to Madrid, Spain as she was recovering from bronchitis. She was mostly over her symptoms and her doctor sent her on with a refill, but my heart ached with worry that she might relapse while on her trip. Turned out she did fine, no relapse and she has the memories of a lifetime.

I am praying. I totally agree with LuAnn, the Lord will lead you to the right decision.

I also wanted to tell you that I watched your "Skunk Story". OM, I laughed so hard. Then, I made my husband watch it. He laughed really hard too! It was the best and I think you are fabulous!!

Bless your heart. I understand this as a mom.

As a nurse, I suspect the antibiotics will kick in pretty quickly since you got them started so soon, and he'll probably past the worst of it by the time they land.

Hugs to you my friend!

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear that, I know you must be worried about him. The only *good* thing about strep is that it does respond pretty quickly to antibiotics...so I bet that he'll be much, much better even by tomorrow. Poor kid! My kids are younger, so I'm not practiced yet at letting go...but it must be tough to do. I think you're doing the right thing...and I'll keep him (and you!) in my prayers!

I'll be praying for Jason. I'm gonna pray for that doctor too! If he is sure it's strep he should have given the boy a shot of Peni. Butter had one two years ago because she stopped eating do to strep. By the end of that day she was back to normal. At least he has a long flight to rest on...You started meds, that is great. They will kick in soon enough. I the mean time we'll all be praying for him. :)

Oh Sara! I could just imagine your Mama's heart sending your boy off feeling so bad. I will keep him (and you) in my prayers. May he arrive there completely healed and feeling ready to take on the world.

Hugs,

Ohilda

Sara, the Lord already blessed you--you got the antibiotic ahead of time. Wow. See, He knew what was going to happen, he inspired you, and you followed--as always. Jason's 1/2 you. The Lord will hold him in the hollow of his hand the whole way. And look at all these comments within a few hours of your post! Jason should be healed by the time he crosses security--that strep has no chance against our prayers!
