Understanding vs Trust

I have been going through Sarah Young's Jesus Calling.
If you don't currently have a good devotional..this is one you would want to get.
I am really enjoying it.

Today's devotion just hit home and I wanted to share it:

Understanding will never bring you Peace.  That's why I have instructed you to trust in Me, not in your own understanding.  Human beings have a voracious appetite for trying to figure things out, in order to gain a sense of mastery over their lives.  But the world presents you with an endless series of problems.  As soon as you master one set, another pops up to challenge you.  The relief you had anticipated is short-lived.  Soon your mind is gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery), instead of seeking Me (your Master).

The wisest of all men, Solomon, could never think his way through to Peace.  His vast understanding resulted in feelings of futility, rather than in fulfillment.  Finally, he lost his way and succumbed to the will of his wives by worshiping idols.

My Peace is not an elusive goal, hidden at the center of some complicated maze.  Actually, you are always enveloped in Peace, which is inherent in My Presence.  As you look to Me, you gain awareness of this precious Peace.

Isn't this true?

Sometimes I think that if I can just understand a situation or why I am having to go through something, then I will have peace about it.
But what truly brings Peace is trust.
Trust in a Savior that knows me and knows my situation perfectly.
Trust in a God who's promises never fail..ever.

This is the Peace I want.
Peace that is available to me just by being in His Presence.

I just lived this out. My feelings were bombarding my with stress of where we'd live; In those moments I literally changed my mind, thought about God and his promise to provide, I imagined Jesus opening a door, I could never see what was on the other side, but he was opening the door to what would be our new home. It was HARD. Trusting something you can't hear with your ears, see with your eyes, touch or cling to with your hand. And when I did that peace came over me; it may have lasted a few seconds until the next doubt but it was there, every time I changed my mind, and focused on God I felt peace. Great post today Sara, thanks for sharing.

Isn't it amazing how the Lord brings things to you right when you need them.

I need trust and peace - my dad went back in the hospital on Saturday. Had tests today and waiting for my mom to call.

Thans for this friend !!!

Been there, done that :). Getting all our questions answered doesn't guarantee strength for the thing we're going through. The strength is from trusting in Jesus and depending on him for everything. I can't create my own contentment. It'll fail every time.
