The placebo effect

Have you ever known someone in a clinical study?
Where they don't know if they are taking the real medicine or the placebo?

Some times the people taking the placebo get the same results as those taking the real thing...mind over matter, right?

See these two pills?

They look very similar.

the one on the left is ambien

the one on the right is estrogen

You see where this is going, right?

yep, some time during my trip to my daughter's, I couldn't sleep. And I got up in the dark to take an ambien ....I only take half.

Guess what? I went to sleep!!!

The next morning, I went to take my estrogen...I take a WHOLE one...and find that there is a 1/2 of a tablet in the container....imagine my surprise!

mind over matter

I wonder if my husband has made the same mistake? :)

Too funny!! My only funny pill story is: I was going to get my son an advil and some water and as I was walking to him I popped the pill and took it myself. I guess I am used to needing advil..ha ha.

I laughed out loud about your husband possibly accidentally taking an estrogen pill. Would that freak him out?

My husband & I take so many pills that we have our own pill boxes (the kind with morning & evening slots for M-F) & we keep our pills in a totally different area of the house. I hate to think what it will look like in 15 years!

Ooh - you just gave me an idea for my Monday picture (if Dr. M didn't take a good one today). I forgot the camera - so I'll take a picture of my pill case when I get home. Heh.

Oh boy.

My interesting pill story is: I was chatting with my sister on facebook. She said she had a huge migraine and she had already taken 3 or 4 of some over the counter pain killer. I can't remember now which. And she was thinking of taking 3 of another type. I said, "let me google that first, I don't know if you should do that." She said, "ok". So I googled, came back and typed into the chat box:
"UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you mix this much of these two over the counter drugs!!!"
She typed back, "really? You're kidding, right?"

She got tired of waiting for me to find out and had swallowed the pills just before my message came through.
Oh boy.

That's funny but scary at the same time. Mixing up meds can have bad consequences.

bahahahaha...if Steve gets really emotional once in awhile, you may suspect that he took the wrong one. :)

i think i'm a mind over matter girl. but i think mine comes more from being a hypochondriac, as soon as i take something almost immediately i feel better. lol

That is hilarious, Sara.

That is hilarious, Sara. Maybe Steve will be a little weepy, and you'll be up in the night cooking in your sleep. I have a friend who does that on Ambien. ~Deb

I thought you were heading toward one pill being an ADD medication and you were awake for hours and hours!
Yet, Deb has an interesting thought- maybe that is why you are such a good cook! Extra practice!
