Who knew that my posting on my FB status that I was cooking Beer Butt chicken would en licit so many comments!!! I really am surprised at how many people have never heard of it!
I do admit that it is not the most pleasant sounding title.......some might call it Beer in the Rear Chicken......that really doesn't sound much better......but I must assure you that it is.....
the.best.chicken......EVAH!
Some of you may not have heard of it because you don't drink beer. And you might not try it because you don't like the taste of beer. Let me tell you that when you eat this chicken, you would never know that beer was involved unless someone told you......I promise!
You MUST try it!!
If for no other reason than the title........it is pretty funny!!
Just look at that picture.......dee-lish!! Can you see the can of beer on the right that the bird is sitting up on.........hence being called Beer Butt Chicken!! That is how it cooks on the grill.
So here you go, the recipe...........you may thank me later!
INGREDIENTS
* 1 cup butter
* 2 tablespoons garlic salt
* 2 tablespoons paprika
* salt and pepper to taste
* 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer
* 1 (4 pound) whole chicken
1. Preheat an outdoor grill for med heat.
2. In a small skillet, melt 1/2 cup butter. Mix in 1 tablespoon garlic salt, 1 tablespoon paprika, salt, and pepper.
3. Discard 1/2 the beer, leaving the remainder in the can. Add remaining butter, garlic salt, paprika, and desired amount of salt and pepper to beer can. Place can on a disposable baking sheet. Set chicken on can, inserting can into the cavity of the chicken. Baste chicken with the melted, seasoned butter. you can also rub chicken with any seasoning you would like.
4. Place baking sheet with beer and chicken on the prepared grill. Cook over medium heat for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, or until internal temperature of chicken reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C).
Enjoy!!!!

Heard of it, but never tried it. Sounds easy though!
We love to cook it and it is so good, but we call it drunk chickens. When my little GD was 3 she told her dad in the grocery store she wanted that beer drinking chicken for supper everyone around them just died laughing.
It is very good, I just might have to fix some for supper tomorrow night.
Sara...I have heard of this but NEVER tried it...I am writing down the ingredients on my grocery list for THIS WEEK! I love anything on the grill and this sounds like fun!
I have heard of this, but since I don't like the taste of beer, I think I'll pass.
round these parts we call that Beer CAN Chicken...But I did have to laugh because when we had it on mother's day my 4yr old son said "Why is that chicken got a can in it's butt?"
Conincidently, we are having it next weekend for Grandma's 82 birthday party. I do agree, best chicken evah!
I have seen this done before and heard rave reviews, but never tasted it or tried to cook it on my own...must get brave. :-)
YUMMERS! I've made it a couple of times and everyone loves it.
Gotta add that to the new menu coming up.
I'm totally enthralled by this.
And I LOVE that you just said EVAH :)
