We all hate cutting onions, unless of course we need a good cry. The worst part is that you never know how strong those onion fumes are going to be until you are already in to it!
The fix is quick and easy........take out a metal spoon from your drawer, place in your mouth and start cutting!!! Yes, it is a little silly looking.....okay, very silly looking!! You will get teased by your family, but you won't care....you won't be crying!!
While I was in Italy, we had to cut very strong onions. I told everyone about this tip....they didn't believe me. By the end of the cutting job, the other lady cutting onions had tears streaming down her face and actually had to walk away two times before she could finish.
Me? I was silly looking........but tear free!!

I love this! So funny that you were brave enough to do this even in Italy. Look who is crying now! ;)
I had just heard this from someone else but haven't tried it yet. Why did it take me half a lifetime to learn this imnportant tip??!! Love the photo/
Awesome. I turn on the gas stove. But this sounds much safer!!!
I think you look cute. Like a chef tasting her yummy dish, with the Other end so you can still stir it with the spoon and not dirty another one. Ok, am I the only one the does that???
Love the pic! I've never heard of this, but I'm going to try it for sure!
OK, I gotta say this is hilarious, but definitely worth trying. I'm choppin' lots of onions for Thanksgiving, so I will let you know what my results are.
I hope they're better than the feedback results I've gotten on the sneezing technique. :)

Now THAT'S a new one! Pretty interesting. I just may have to try it!
REALLY!!!!????
I've heard running water.
I've heard stuffing a piece of bread in your mouth.
-- NOT! (i.e. does not work)
THIS I will try.
Onions make in into almost everything I make so this will save much pain and suffering.
Very cool!
I have heard of that trick but need to remember it! I am glad you taught them something....or tried!
Another tip regarding onions: rubbing your hands on something metal. This removes the odor from your hands. (this makes sense with your metal spoon tip)
My mother-in-law has one of these:

And it really works!
