Venice day 3 and HAPY BIRTHDAY JASON!!!!

My son Jason turns 17 today, at least it is today in Italy!!  Love you honey!!  Hope you have a great day, I am thinking of you and praying for you!

We slept in today! Our hotel room opens up to the main walking strip through this side of town. After the end of Sept., al the buildings turn off their airconditioners. So, you need to have your windows open. It’s a bit noisy to say the least….yea for ear plugs!!

We walked to St. Marks basilica this morning first. This church is breath taking as you walk in. It is enormous and the paintings on the ceiling are beautiful. They are even more amazing when you realize that they are all mosaics!!! All done with little tiny squares of glass. Just unbelieveable! There was a service going on and that was so interesting to watch. We climbed to the top landing and got a great view of the square.

Our next stop was the tower. You stand in line and then take a very small elevator up to the top….good thing neither of us is clostrophobic!!! The view of Venice from there is wonderful and you get a 360 degree view!! Beautiful!

Next we went to the Doge Palace. This Palace took over 800 years to build. It is enormous and is attached to the prison by the bridge of Sighs. As prisoners were taken to the prison, they would walk across the bridge, get their last view of Venice and sigh. This palace was so cool and as I went through it, I tried to imagine what it was like in it’s prime. I could just envision the people dancing in the big ball room. I wondered that if the walls could talk in the prison, what they would say.

Next, we headed to Rialto bridge. A very famous bridge lined with all sorts of shops and vendors. It was soooooo crowed. We did some shopping and then found a café on the water for lunch. We had probably the best tasting salad I have ever had…truly! I can’t explain all the flavors in it, but it was wonderful and so much fun sitting there on the water, in the sun enjoying the people!

After lunch, mom treated me to a gondola ride!! You just can’t come to Venice and not ride on a Gondola. And it didn’t disappoint! So fun traveling through the inner canals of Venice with Fillipo, our guide! We were able to get some beautiful pictures.

The rest of the afternoon and evening, we just decided to walk and see what we would find. I love meandering through the narrow alleys and seeing what surprises show up around the corner. Dinner was wine, cheese and bread at a café along the lagoon…perfect!

Tonight we are turning in early…….two very weary ladies!! Fortunately the night life is not very exciting in Venice so we don’t feel we are missing much!

Tomorrow we are undecided on what to do for our last day, but I am sure it will be fun!

This may be my last post before we leave for Tuscany....I'm running out of minutes!
