Why does a "check" feel so good?

Well, it's Friday morning and I am leaving for Dallas at noon. I was able to get everything checked off my list except for the freezer......it's still dead.

I have often wondered why it feels so good to check something off your list. Part of it, I 'm sure, is the sense of accomplishment. Or maybe it's that it gives me a feeling that I am actually doing something valuable. Sometimes, I want to wave it around at those around me and say "see, how busy I am...look at all I am doing" (especially when it's your teenage son that looks at you, quite seriously, and says 'mom, what exactly do you contribute to this family'?......yes, it's true, he said it.....yes, he's still alive) Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with a list and checking it twice, unless it pertains to my relationship with Christ.

Every so often, I find my self checking off things that pertain to my faith.....

quiet time done.........check........

bible study done......check, check.........

went to church....check, check, check.

And what was once a vibrant relationship becomes reduced to a list that eventually will make me feel dry and far away from my God. This week, God has been reminding me that He desires and longs for a relationship with me. He wants time alone with me to talk, He wants to be invited into the everyday aspects of my life, He wants me to run to him with my hurts........not be reduced to a list of things I need to get done. I am so thankful that He loves me that much!!

So, I leave for Dallas at noon. Tomorrow, I will be putting on a luncheon for my Aunt and 20 of her favorite friends. I won't be able to tell you about it because I will also be going back in time 30 years!!! Right, .....no internet, no computer, no cable, no DVD player and a coffee maker that only holds FOUR cups of coffee...........thank goodness there is a Starbucks up the street!!! But I will fill you all in when I get back!! Have a great weekend!

Oh yeah, several people have asked me for the recipe for the truffles......amazing!!....so here it is:

1 lb semi sweet choc. chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
2-4 Tbls. favorite liquor (raspberry, amaretto, Kahlua)
crushed pecans, powdered sugar, cocoa for toppings

put choc. chips in a bowl. heat heavy cream to boiling and then pour over CC. Place a plate over bowl for a few minutes and then whisk the choc until smooth. Add liquor and mix. cover and place in frig till firm....a couple of hours. Roll spoonfuls of choc. into small balls and roll in favorite topping!

Enjoy!!
